Here is how:
To resolve this problem, clear the Windows Media Player database. To do this, follow these steps:
a. Exit Windows Media Player.
b. Click Start, click Run, type %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Media Player, and then click OK.
c. Select all the files in the folder, and then click Delete on the File menu.
Note: You do not have to delete the folders that are in this folder.
d. Restart Windows Media Player.
Note: Windows Media Player automatically rebuilds the database.
Here is the procedure below to uninstall and re-install the Windows Media Player.

Thank you for your time.
I've already tried the method 2 but it didn't work. (I used this method to install the media player 11, which didn't work).
The error message is: "Windows Media Player is not installed properly and must be reinstalled. Do you want to install the Player from the Microsoft Web site?"
Some days ago I had a power cut here at home and I was using my PC. After some days, I tried to open a .mts video file and the media player opened and just stopped responding. I tried again and again but nothing. I wanted to know what was the problem so I opened a .avi file and .wmv. Both didn't work and Media Player suddenly crashed. Then I tried this Windows features thing and repeated it many times (just like you said) and didn't work. I wanted to have WMP back so I tried to install Windows Media Player 11 for Windows 7. After I installed it, a error message came telling me that I couldn't install another WMP... (windows feature was off).
After that, I realized I probably wouldn't get my WMP back so I started deleting important WMP files (Program Data ones and even AppData). I thought Windows would realize that there was a problem and would reinstall it. And indeed it did but I can't get the installer.
Thank You

Thank You

None of those steps worked. The main issue I'm having is that the WMP12 on my computer doesn't have the RIP Feature after I had to recover the computer. WMP12 is also not showing up in the "Turn Windows features On or Off" section. I've had to recover the computer 4 times since I got in October. I'm propabily gonna have to contact HP.

Do both these steps [they are the closest thing possible to uninstalling then reinstalling WMP]
1 Unload WMP - Control Panel, Programs and Features, [left-hand side] Turn Windows features on or off, Media Features, clear Windows Media Player checkbox, Yes, OK, Restart the PC.
2 Reload WMP - Control Panel, Programs and Features, [left-hand side] Turn Windows features on or off, Media Features, set the Windows Media Player checkbox, Yes, OK, Restart the PC.
At the end of this you will effectively have a new installation of WMP.

Hi, I am curious, is there a way to keep your mp3 files while doing all of this?

Nothing you do to WMP itself affects the mp3 files. Your music files are not part of WMP. WMP is just a library of files i.e. a list of shortcuts to files that exist elsewhere on your hard drive.
